Your Guide to Church Renewal | Part 2: Congregational Coaching

Your Guide to Church Renewal | Part 2: Congregational Coaching

What Is Congregation Coaching?

A congregational coach is someone who works alongside your church to cultivate greater learning and insights which can help you plan for the future. Our coaches are trained facilitators who have a demonstrated track record of successful congregational ministry.

They know how to help your congregation discern and implement the steps necessary for your church to thrive. A consultant’s role is to help you design a path forward that maximizes regional wisdom and expertise under the leadership of God’s Spirit.

We don’t offer easy, ready-made answers. We compassionately guide your church to explore truly sustainable possibilities unique to your given set of circumstances and needs.

Reasons Churches Seek Out Congregation Coaching

1. Leadership Transition

One of the most significant opportunities for enhancing the health of a church comes during a time of leadership transition. While all seasons of transition have the potential to cultivate fear of the unknown, how a congregation travels into, through, and out of a transition in leadership is often a key predictor for a healthy future.

We help churches identify interim leadership. We also coach congregations towards discovering healthy and unhealthy identity markers in their past, current, and future church life.

2. Identity Clarity

Who do we say that we are and how does that impact our mission? Obtaining clarity of identity is a vital concern for all parts of the church.

A church’s identity must be firmly rooted in scripture and yet flexible enough to adapt to changes in culture and the shifting demands of the needs of our community. A congregational coach will guide the congregation through steps to help bring unity in identity and mission.

3. Missional Visioning

As followers of Jesus Christ, our mission is to be disciples who make disciples. But how do we do that? There are as many ways to answer that question as there are churches in our communities.

While there is no right or wrong answer, the difficult part for most churches is identifying the ways God has uniquely gifted your congregation to carry out the mission God has planted within your church. Consultants can help identify the unique passions, gifts, resources, and heart God has planted within your church.

4. Navigating Conflict

It is no secret that we live in a time where conflict and division seem to permeate every aspect of our lives. The church is no different. If we aren’t intentional our differences can distract us from the work God has planned for each of us, individually and as a congregation. We help navigate a variety of challenges from within and outside the walls of the church.

Consultants and coaches are trained in advising and coaching congregations, staff, deacons, boards, elders, councils, or other leadership groups during these challenges. We strongly believe building the spiritual muscle INSIDE the church to accept one another’s differences allows us to be more likely to extend acceptance and grace outside the church.

How Much Do Church Coaching Charge

Each church congregation and situation is unique, so are the costs for church coaching. Fees vary based on the work required. Our financial model is affordable and available to all congregations and clergy. In all cases, investing in health is a preventive measure to avoid the high price of conflict or missed opportunities in the future.

What Sets CHC Coaches Apart

The answer to this question can be summed in four simple words “proven hands-on experience”. The Center for Healthy Churches provides help and hope for congregations and clergy through a wide array of ministries. Everyone who works with CHC is currently serving in a congregation or is a recent veteran of a local church or organizational ministry.

CHC coaches and consultants combine their vast experience, proven track records, and awareness of the larger issues facing the church in the 21st century to bring a non-naïve and deeply spiritual approach to our clients. We have consultants and coaches from varied denominational perspectives, and from the East to West Coast to easily serve congregations across the country.
