CHC Announces a Leadership Transition
On September 1st, Dr. Bill Wilson stepped down as Director of the Center for Healthy Churches and Dr. Matt Cook has now assumed that role. Dr. Wilson will remain an active part of the organization as Senior Consultant, and will also continue to be a part of the coordinating team in CHC’s strategic partnership with Pneumatrix.
“There aren’t many people who have the skills, work ethic, and most importantly the trust of so many people in Church life to start an organization like ours,” said Dr. Matt Cook. “There are even fewer people who could also help that organization grow so rapidly. It’s an enormous credit to Bill that we’ve been able to help so many churches in so many different ways. As a friend and colleague, Bill has been a gift to me. As a leader in our organization, he has been a gift to the 21st Century Church in ways that will be sustained for years to come. For these reasons and many more, I am glad that he’s going to continue to be available to help churches.”

On the occasion of this transition, Bill Wilson said: “From our beginning, I have hoped and prayed that CHC would model a healthy leadership transition as we moved into our shared future. Matt Cook is a critical link from our past to our future, and I could not be more pleased to hand him the leadership role for this amazing organization. I believe that the very best days of CHC are yet to come, and Matt is the right person to help make that statement a reality. I am grateful he has listened to and followed the Spirit’s leadership at this moment in his vocational faith journey.”
Prior to coming to the Center as Assistant Director in 2019, Dr. Cook served in congregational ministry for nearly thirty years with twenty of those years as a Senior Pastor. He has also taught at Baylor University, Belmont University, and Central Seminary in Shawnee KS.

“We have an outstanding team at the Center, even more so now that we are partnering seamlessly with our colleagues at Pneumatrix. My role as Director is to provide strategic leadership in how we grow our capacity to serve more congregations. In addition to the work, we do helping congregations in the midst of ministerial transitions, our work helping congregations with vision and strategy, as well as assisting staff team development and reorganization, our next big step has been working on ways to equip congregations to respond in healthy ways to political and cultural polarization. We are in the development stage of what will be the largest new initiative in our history called the Romans 12 Project. These are challenging times for American congregations but we know that God often uses such moments to do the most transformative things. Our hope at CHC is to be a part of helping congregations recognize that and respond with creativity and faithfulness.
Founded in 2014 with a small nucleus of experienced and successful congregational leaders, The Center now partners with thirty-four consultants and leadership coaches across the United States. Each year these men and women engage with hundreds of ministers and churches from across the spectrum of the American church to bring health, hope, and healing in the spirit of Christ.
