About Deborah Wright

Ordained by the PC(USA) in 1978, Deborah London Wright has specialized in adaptive change management, strategic visioning, program development, and Positive Deviance implementation as a Corporate Chaplain. With degrees from Duke University and San Francisco Theological Seminary, she served as Associate Pastor of Calvary SF, was appointed to the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness, a Trustee of the Presbyterian Church (USA) Foundation, adjunct faculty at SFTS, host of the KPIX-TV talk show Mosaic, and Director of Major Gifts at SFTS.
Following Ph.D. studies at the GTU, she formed Avalon Enterprises, a consultancy practice in funds development, corporate chaplaincy, strategic visioning, and project management for NGOs in religion, education, healthcare, and film. She has been a grant administrator and grant evaluator and has taught Adaptive Change Leadership, applying Positive Deviance Theory in her practice. Clients have included The George Lucas Educational Foundation, Google, Kaiser Permanente, the PC(USA), the Murphy Cancer Foundation, Callaway Leadership Institute, and Kairos USA. In 2010 she and Jim Kitchens launched PneuMatrix to bring Adaptive Change Leadership to Presbyteries and congregations, including a 3-year contract with the Presbyterian Foundation to implement their Lilly Grant on congregational stability and transformation. Innovative models for entrepreneurial non-profits is the hallmark of the Rev. Wright’s career.
